Regional History

The Far West Region (originally, the West Coast Region) of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was established on June 18, 1983 by Brother Robert Clark (Alpha Lambda Chapter, University of Illinois).  The founding chapters were ALPHA CHI (San Francisco State University) and XI OMEGA (San Francisco Alumni).  Besides actualizing the Fraternity Motto, “BUILDING A TRADITION, NOT RESTING UPON ONE”, the FAR WEST REGION also abides by its own adopted precepts: “SOCIAL SERVICE, PROFESSIONALISM, BROTHERHOOD”.

  • Far West chapters have received numerous awards and recognition from the NAACP, UNCF, the Judie Davis Marrow Donor Program, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and many other local, community organizations and programs.
  • Additionally, brothers from the FWR have gone forth to establish chapters in other regions of Iota: Gamma Chi (Florida A&M), Gamma Omicron (University of Florida), Eta Zi (Virginia Tech)
